The Blog is Back!

A short while ago, on a previous incarnation of the world-famous ollyfayers.com, I announced the return of my blog. Then I didn’t write much, and the whole point of my having a blog was defeated. But, I think it’s possible that this time, the blog is actually back. I have decided to take a different approach to my website. Having learnt a lot of nerdy web design tricks in the last few months, I got a little tired of creating boring pages which can do all the basic things to a fairly decent level. I didn’t manage to come up with a site which allowed me to quickly create new content without overhauling a lot of the design, and manually editing each and every page on the website. I wanted something more complicated, and I wasn’t managing to build it.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this will just not do. I wanted my website to automatically generate new pages each time I uploaded a new blog entry; I wanted a nice contact form which I had handcrafted myself, and a homepage which I had entirely customised. In the end, I may have got a little carried away. I seemed to have undertaken the online equivalent of building my own car, except I had built every single component from the smallest part upwards. Normally when you build your own car, someone will have done bits like the engine and gearbox already, and you just attach them up. Instead, I seemed to want to build every electrical circuit and mechanical component myself. That, I doubt, was ever going to happen.

So here’s the new approach: I’ve plugged Wordpress into my site, which is a widely-used blogging engine. I’m going to keep modifying and tweaking it until I gradually come up with a site which looks more unique, and can successfully carry out the other things I want to do. In the meantime, I can blog away to my heart’s content. There. Everyone’s happy.
